For every BRL 1.00 invested in one of the professional courses offered by Ramacrisna, BRL 6.81 is returned to society. This and other evidence of the changes brought about by Ramacrisna in the well-being of individuals and their communities, such as the opportunity for family members to work, the increase in youth employability and, consequently, in family income, make up the 2023 ESG Impact Report released, this week, in celebration of the organization’s 64th anniversary. Access through the link https://ramacrisna.org.br/relatorio2023/

The second edition of the study was carried out by an independent company specialized in impact and sustainability, it shows the result of the Institute’s actions and projects from 2019 to 2022, and brings indicators of the governance, social and environmental impacts promoted. During this period, 307,325 consultations were carried out, 104,170 of which in 2022, in the post-pandemic period. “It is a materialization of all the work carried out, constituting an asset for the organization to expand its transforming action”, explains Gabriela Ferolla, CEO of Seall who was in charge of the elaboration of the document.

“Completing our second Impact Report means consolidating an entire activity guided by compliance, ethics and conduct actions, careful management in the use of resources and impeccable accountability. But, far beyond that, we present to partners and society the results with the public served that transform the lives of children, young people, families and the communities where they live”, evaluates the vice president of Ramacrisna, Solange Bottaro.

Social return on investment

The Social Return on Investment, called SROI, is the monetization of the impact generated. That is, it is the presentation of the financial value, in reais, that returns to society considering the vision of impacts perceived by the parties involved. According to the report, for every BRL 1.00 invested in professional courses offered by the Institute, BRL 6.81 return to society. In 2022 alone, there were 56 groups of 21 courses, benefiting 1,185 students. In all, there are more than 8,000 students trained since 1995.

Two other projects had the Social Return on Investment measured. With regard to the Ramacrisna Educational Support Center, for every BRL 1.00 invested there is a return of BRL 3.62 for society. According to surveys carried out with the families of students assisted, 75% of guardians who work state that “if the children were not in CAER activities, the guardian and other people in the family group would not be able to work”. And the increase in family income grew by 65% because the children are assisted by the project

In the Adolescent Apprentice project, for every BRL 1.00 invested, there is a return of BRL 3.50 for society. The survey also showed that for every 10 teenagers who participate in the program, 8 are placed in the job market after the project.

ESG

The measurement of environmental and governance impacts are fundamental pillars to enhance positive social results and this is very clear in the presentation of the report. “We were able to see a crescent related to the impact generated at the social level, maintaining its transparency and robustness of corporate governance. Looking at the economic axis, we have the path of self-sustainability through the fabric factory, which generates support for the perpetuity of the organization, but a highlight is the environmental perspective beyond the institution’s core activity”, ponders Gabriela Ferolla.

Today, the Institute produces 80% of all its monthly energy consumption through installed plants that generate 80 KWP of clean energy. Savings on the energy bill can subsidize the care of around 400 young people. In the environmental area, we also highlight the preservation of four hectares of Cerrado forest next to the head office and the treatment of 100% of effluents through biodigesters.

With regard to governance, attention is drawn to the organization’s self-sustainability with the founding of the Ramacrisna fence factory, in 1975. 8 million per year, which allows more than 3,900 services to be provided.
