Back to School: How to Support Your Children in School

Since February 5th, children have returned to the routine of classrooms. And with that, parents are full of doubts about how to monitor their children’s performance at school.

Many people are unsure about what they should or should not do. Additionally, many families have busy schedules and end up not having enough time to dedicate to closely observing every step of the school routine.

Here are some tips to stay closer to your children in their school day-to-day:

Tips for Monitoring Your Children’s School Performance

First and foremost, ask the child what they learned that day. Showing interest in your children’s school activities is a way to value every step taken in their learning journey.

Moreover, it’s important to check notebooks and agendas to see completed assignments, notes, and even complaints. This will keep you up to date on what’s happening with your children at school.

Another tip is to establish a routine, including a study schedule. Remember to include cultural activities, leisure time, and play. Tutoring sessions or extracurricular courses should also have their place.

During study time, try to help the child with their homework, addressing any doubts and even identifying questions that can be brought to the teachers. Besides being present, this time can help identify the child’s difficulties and foster their autonomy.

Another way to closely monitor your children’s school performance is to attend school meetings. This is an ideal opportunity to address concerns about the child’s development and areas for improvement.

Understand that as the years go by, parents should encourage their children’s learning, stimulating the acquisition of diverse knowledge and seeking out skills that may be useful in the future job market.

Learning Beyond School

What many parents may not know is that extracurricular activities carried out after school hours can not only aid in a child’s development but also provide them with healthy options for leisure when adults are at work, for example. Moreover, these activities can broaden a child’s mindset, empowering them and even bringing them closer to family relationships.

With this in mind, the Ramacrisna Institute offers various projects aimed at this audience. One of them is the Ramacrisna Educational Support Center (CAER). Here, students participate in various workshops focused on knowledge and sports. Additionally, children receive lunch and snacks daily, even during vacations, as well as clothing, as an incentive for families to keep them attending school regularly.

In the “Live Sports” project, carried out in partnership with the Municipal Government of Betim, children take part in various sports activities, physical practices, and competitive sports. The idea is to promote health, quality of life, physical and mental well-being among participants, for free and with the support of specialized professionals, contributing to the exercise of citizenship and human transformation.

Also focused on physical activities, “Sport in Motion“, sponsored by Vale, Goldman Sachs Bank, Goldman Sachs Broker, and Itaú Network through the Federal Law for Sports Incentive, benefits 120 individuals directly and 480 indirectly in the Vianópolis region, in Betim. The project offers activities such as football, volleyball, shuttlecock, and basketball.

Tatame Cidadão” is aimed at children aged eight and up and offers judo classes. In addition to its sporting aspect, the project encompasses Educational Sports: practiced in non-systematic forms of education, avoiding selectivity and hyper-competitiveness among its practitioners.

Bringing together technology, sports, and education, the “Checkmate” project, sponsored by Vale through the Federal Law for Sports Incentive, seeks to provide children and adolescents with sports experiences through robotics and chess workshops, benefiting 448 children and young people between 6 and 18 years old, in situations of social vulnerability, public school students, and residents of Betim.

These are just a few of the projects that can aid in your children’s development outside of school. And each activity has the power to transform entire families.

In total, more than two million people have already been directly benefited by Ramacrisna. Learn about ways to help and become part of the chain of good.
