Ramacrisna promotes activities on folklore for children

Folklore activities work on Brazilian culture, in addition to helping to establish Portuguese language content.
On August 22nd, the Brazilian Folklore Day is celebrated. The date aims to ensure the preservation of popular culture. In addition to encouraging studies in the area. Characters such as Cuca, Saci, Curupira and Iara can be taken to the classrooms, in fun activities about folklore.
At Instituto Ramacrisna, actions are being developed since the beginning of the month and will continue until the end of August. Discover some initiatives.

Discover our folklore activities

The pedagogical coordinator of the Ramacrisna Educational Support Center, Edilene Lemos, explains that activities on folklore are more focused on the literacy table project and the library.
Students have contact with legends, riddles, tongue twisters and nursery rhymes. In addition to the stories, they learn the characteristics and differences between the characters of Brazilian folklore. “Because the teacher at the literacy table is taking advantage of the playfulness of the subject to enhance the children’s reading and writing, that is, literacy,” says Edilene.
That is, in the song “Caranguejo é não Peixe”, in addition to working on rhymes, students learn the syllables -gue, -gui. “And then they associate it with other words, like Guilherme, guitar”, she exemplifies.

For example, in the speech “I went through the pinguelinha”, the teacher worked with words with an “x” sound, but written with -ch. The children made a word bank of what they have at home with the sound of x: shower, slipper, key, smell, dog…
“The work with writing and reading is carried out with different didactics, for example, each child wrote a piece of the music and the speech presented, they made folds and set up a mural”, she adds.

On the mural, crab, fish and dolphin folds (representing the pink dolphin) were affixed. “Each child did their folding, step by step, to work on motor coordination, concentration, attention, sequence, skills needed for literacy and then they decorated it. It was beautiful,” he says.
In the library, children participate in storytelling about legends with folklore characters. In sports, the theme of folklore is being addressed through old games, such as sack race, dodgeball, steal the flag, tag, which are also part of folklore.

Folklore week

In the week when Folklore Day is celebrated, children participate in two special activities. It is a program involving several projects, such as the Literacy Table, Folkloriá, the Innovation workshop, Viva o Esporte and the Library.
On the 23rd, a theater group presents the students with a tale about folklore. The play has some characters, songs played with guitar and characterization. On Friday, children will participate in a workshop on making folk toys and specific games.

Why work on folklore?

According to Edilene, the activities preserve the Brazilian cultural richness and diversity. “It’s a way of valuing culture, a tradition that passes from one generation to the next, of playing the same games that parents and grandparents played, experimenting with recipes and regional sayings. This appreciation of memory, of the feeling of belonging, is essential, it strengthens affective bonds and preserves our history”, she points out.
In addition, the improvement in children’s learning is already noticeable, in a fun and enjoyable way. Students have contact with the notion of rhyme, alliteration and familiarity with more complex sounds for children’s understanding.
