Climate change is already being noticed by everyone: high temperatures in winter, torrential rains in summer. They are a consequence of environmental degradation. Other effects are the depletion of reserves and loss of biodiversity, desertification, water scarcity, loss of habitats and increased greenhouse gas emissions, for example.

Therefore, it is increasingly important to take actions aimed at environmental preservation. This is not just an effort by the government or large companies, but by all people and institutions. The work of each person adds strength, resulting in an improvement in the environment and, consequently, in the quality of life of the communities.

In recent years, the Ramacrisna Institute has adopted actions aimed at environmental preservation, which include not only the correct disposal of waste, but also the education of new generations. Check it out below:

One of Ramacrisna’s differences is that environmental preservation is worked across all programs, projects and proposals. In other words, the theme is part of the ongoing training offered to children, young people and adults participating in the project, who multiply these values with their families and communities.

Currently, Ramacrisna proposes continuous improvement in the environmental area, both in the expansion of energy efficiency actions, generation of clean and renewable energy, collection and treatment of effluent residues and preservation of cerrado forests aiming at mitigating CO², and advancement in the correct disposal of waste as good environmental practices.

Within the Ramacrisna headquarters, in Betim, there is an area of 4 hectares of preserved cerrado forest. In the middle of the biome, there is the EcoTrilha. It is an ecological trail built in 2017, in partnership with UVS’s Essencis Betim and Viasolo Betim. Lasting around 15 minutes, the route is smooth, without major obstacles, allowing people of all ages to follow the trail.

During the route, visitors enjoy the beautiful landscape and natural wealth of the region. This is because of the great diversity of trees and plants, in addition to the presence of wild animals, such as birds. The trail is open to the public and can be done any day of the week, completely free of charge.

Another action of the Institute is the correct disposal of waste. Food scraps from the kitchen, as well as grass clippings and collected foliage go into compost. This material becomes fertilizer, later used for the headquarters’ gardens.

Waste such as oil used in the screen factory and in the mechanics school is sent to a partner institution, which takes care of the correct disposal of the material. Electronic equipment also receives special care: the parts that can be used are used for restoration. of machines, such as computers, and the scrap is sent for recycling, as well as iron and wire scraps from the screen factory.

The action is no longer effective due to the problems with selective collection in the neighborhood, offered by the city hall.

When it comes to water resources, the region where Ramacrisna is headquartered does not have a sewage treatment network. But the Institute treats 100% of its effluents through a biomanager system. The next steps to be implemented for environmental preservation are water reuse and rainwater collection.

Despite not being the main focus of the Institute’s actions, Ramacrisna believes that caring for the environment also helps transform people’s lives, ensuring quality of life for future generations.
