Gerais, known internationally for its industrial park, becomes the stage for
CINEMA SHOW
From the 7th to the 12th of May, the city of Betim is the setting for the 1st Betim Cinema Exhibition, with inclusive and free programming, screenings of national and local films, in cinemas and different parts of the city, workshops, photo exhibitions and a seminar that aims to boost debates on the development of local cinema and audiovisual.
According to filmmaker and journalist Elizabete Martins Campos, founder of iT Filmes, Comunicação e Entretenimento, registered with the National Cinema Agency – ANCINE, since 2009 and creator of the Mostra, the focus of the event is audience training, training and discussing Betim in the face of the growing development of the creative industry in Brazil. The selection of films was made by a curator composed exclusively of women, the journalist, writer and documentary filmmaker Mariana Tavares and the filmmaker Lorena Ortiz, and presents recent films that communicate with the public and that have not yet reached cinemas in Betim, highlighting new languages and the diverse representations of contemporary Brazilian cinema, from various regions of the country, including Minas Gerais, Pará, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Roraima, Alagoas, Rio Grande do Sul, Amazônia, Ceará. These are stories that address cultural, ethnic, geographic, historical and economic aspects experienced by various minorities.
In front of and behind the cameras, urban and rural workers, indigenous peoples, miners, quilombolas, artists, students and filmmakers who tell and experience their stories proposing new narratives, as each story requires a different way of being told, which should not necessarily, stick to the canons. Therefore, the curatorial focus focuses on the different possibilities of filmmaking, highlighting the strength and creativity of Brazilian cinema, whether in feature or short film format. Two training workshops make up the program, one on CINEMATOGRAPHIC SCRIPTS FOR BEGINNERS, open to the public, and another on “INTRODUCTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF ELECTRONIC GAMES FOR BEGINNERS”, aimed exclusively at young people from the Ramacrisna Institute, at its headquarters in the Santo Afonso neighborhood , in Betim.
THE SEMINAR – BETIM CIDADE CRIATIVA – STRATEGIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL AUDIOVISUAL will be the space for discussions on growth strategies for the film and audiovisual sector in the city, as well as the creative industry that encompasses both sectors. Experienced professionals will be gathered to share knowledge, among
them, César Piva, cultural manager with a 30-year history in the area, working in the formation of cooperation networks involving cultural agents, managers and civil society organizations, universities, private companies and governments, with a strategic focus on the implementation of creative and educational territories for sustainable local development, being one of the founders of the Audiovisual Hub of Zona da Mata, in Minas Gerais.
“MOSTRA BETIM”, with a program of local films, is an important attraction of the event. Just like Elizabete Martins Campos, director of the award-winning and first feature film produced in Betim, “My Name is Now, Elza Soares”, other filmmakers in the city who have produced works will be highlighted, therefore the 1st BETIM CINEMA SHOW will have a special program so that the population can learn about the talent of these municipal audiovisual professionals, with sessions in a movie theater. In parallel, the BETIM VIVA PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION, with frames from the film about Betim will be available for visitation from May 8th to 31st, at Casa da Cultura Josephina Bento.
The 1st BETIM CINEMA SHOW is conceived by iT Filmes, Comunicação e Entretenimento, which celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2024, and the launch of this event takes place in conjunction with the growth trend of the cinematographic, audiovisual and creative industry as a whole in Brazil. “Our intention is to share knowledge and information about the cinematographic and audiovisual sector, to collaborate to guarantee access and democratization of national cinema and lessons linked to this area, which I believe is the industry that has everything to put Brazil at the forefront of developed countries through the creative industry, in fact creativity, willpower, and people wanting to achieve and see themselves through art is not lacking”, adds Elizabete.
The 1st BETIM CINEMA SHOW is designed by iT Filmes, Comunicação e Entretenimento, which celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2024, and the launch of this event is part of the celebrations and the intention is to share knowledge about the cinematographic and audiovisual sector, guarantee access and democratization of the national cinema and learning related to this area with the community of Betim and the region.
