The Institute has invested in governance since its creation, in 1959, as a tool for social transformation, long before the term ESG existed
Investing in ESG not only helps in winning new partners, but also improves project execution and brings more recognition. The most recent was the Thedotgood award, which recognizes the 200 Best NGOs in the world, in which Ramacrisna ranked 178th and 12th in the Brazilian ranking..
The award was given by Thedotgood, former NGO Advisor, an independent media organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, which evaluated criteria such as impact, innovation and governance..
Instituto Ramacrisna always seeks to bring the most modern and technological to improve the lives of thousands of people in situations of social vulnerability. In practice, this means from the inauguration of a space dedicated to technology, such as the FabLab, to the creation of Cercas Ramacrisna, aimed at raising funds for the maintenance of care.
All of this is the result of the investment in management and governance that Ramacrisna has made since its creation in 1959. Now, with the emergence of the ESG culture, the Institute has expanded its actions in the area. Meet some.
Even before the official creation of the Institute, in 1959, Ramacrisna was already looking for ways to obtain resources for the self-sustainability of the projects. That year, Gráfica Linotipo was created. Can Solange talk a little more about that? In 1977, it was extinguished and, with the values from the sale of machinery, the Ramacrisna Pasta Factory was born..
The Factory existed until 2011, when, after a market study, the equipment and the brand were sold to Vilma Alimentos, the sale made it possible to expand the fabric factory. Cercas Ramacrisna was born in 1975 and has played a key role in maintaining the Institute’s activities ever since.
Every year, the factory contributes BRL 815 thousand, on average, corresponding to more than 22 thousand services or 28% of the Institute’s accounts.
Another governance action is the partnership with Fundação Dom Cabral. Since 2008, Ramacrisna has received training for the development of management skills. As a result, the Institute obtained significantly better results in obtaining resources, credibility with partners, improvement in the quality of care and the number of people benefited.
To give you an idea, Ramacrisna reached the mark of 106 employees at the headquarters, with 1148 hours of training. In addition, in 2021 alone, it counted 11 partnerships with the City of Betim and 17 with companies. These numbers made it possible to welcome several families in social vulnerability, with the donation of food, shoes and education and qualification projects that have already transformed the lives of almost 2 million people.
Despite the self-sustainability initiatives, it is still not possible to carry out the projects without the help of partners. Whether those with one-off donations or sporadic support, or companies that are partners for long periods of time.
There are also partnerships for carrying out personalized projects. This is what happens with Expending Horizons, which offers professional training courses for teenagers and young people. It is carried out in partnership with BrazilFoundation and the Municipality of Igarapé.
Likewise, Bulding the Future sponsored by Petrobras, serves children, youth and adults in three cities in the Metropolitan Region. In addition to professional courses, the project offers sports, leisure, culture and human training experiences for the participants.
In addition, for its “notorious knowledge”, the Institute was hired by the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais to create the Álvaro César Foundation.. The institution was born in 2019 and aims to provide assistance and inclusion to people with intellectual disabilities.
For this, Ramacrisna invited ethical, reputable and committed citizens to the cause to compose the Curator, Director and Fiscal Councils. Afterwards, the Institute prepared and registered the incorporation documentation, the institutional project, the strategic and budgetary planning, prospected and trained the management team.
The organization was also responsible for taking care of the creation and approval of the Statute, hiring a professional manager and an accounting firm. Finally, Ramacrisna provided the visual identity of the new institution and followed the Foundation’s first six months of operation.
The GIP – Management and Innovation in Ramacrisna Projects emerged to unite the need to obtain resources for social projects with the opportunity to help other institutions and companies. The project offers full support in the management of the social project of companies, governments and other entities of the Third Sector.
In this way, the GIP uses the expertise of more than 60 years of experience of the Institute in management, relationship with partners and accountability for companies, public authorities and international institutions.
