Environmental Education: Instituto Ramacrisna promotes actions for the community

Environmental education actions range from activities for children to an ecological trail open to the community.

According to Law 9795 of 1999, which establishes the National Environmental Education Policy, environmental education is understood to mean the processes of building social values, knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences aimed at conserving the environment. In addition to the common use of the people, essential to a healthy quality of life and its sustainability.

It is also a duty of all institutions to provide environmental education for the community and this can be done from childhood. Contrary to what common sense says, children are able to understand the importance of caring for the environment. Not to mention that environmental education helps in the feeling of belonging to the world.

Another benefit of environmental education for children is the ability to disseminate information. That is, the little ones share knowledge with friends and family, generating a flow of information that benefits the entire community.

Therefore, the Instituto Ramacrisna believes that taking care of the environment is not just about having projects and actions to preserve and reduce the use of natural resources, such as the installation of the photovoltaic plant. It is helping children, adolescents and adults to develop environmental awareness and play their part in preserving.

Environmental education in Ramacrisna

Since 2014, students at the Ramacrisna Educational Center (CAER) have participated in the Institute’s composting process. This is a way of reusing organic waste, dry leaves and grass clippings. In addition, it is a way of showing, in practice, how the material that would be discarded serves to give life to new plants.

In composting, the material is left to mature for four months. After this period, the compost is removed and left for another month to enjoy. All stages are separated by wooden playpens and date signs. When the compost is transformed into organic fertilizer, it is used in the gardens of Ramacrisna.

Another environmental education action takes place inside the classrooms. At CAER, professors talk about preserving the environment, caring for animals and reusing and recycling materials in interdisciplinary topics

In professional courses, students learn to properly dispose of waste and the impact that poor disposal can cause.

Ecological trail: leisure and education for the whole family

Inside Ramacrisna, there is an ecological trail in the middle of the forest, called EcoTrilha. Lasting approximately 15 minutes, the walk is gentle, which allows it to be done by people of all ages.

Along the way, it is possible to observe a beautiful landscape and perceive the natural wealth of the region. The route was built in 2017, in partnership with UVS’s Essencis Betim and Viasolo Betim

EcoTrilha has a great diversity of trees and plants, in addition to contact with animals, such as wild birds. The trail is open to the public and can be done any day of the week.
