Fablab Ramacrisna celebrates 3 years with international certification and opens its doors to the community

To celebrate, the institution will host a lecture on Artificial Intelligence and Careers: the future is now

April marks a historic moment for FabLab Ramacrisna: the Fabrication Laboratory, located in Betim (MG), is celebrating its third anniversary with international certification from the worldwide network of FabLabs, an MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) program that connects digital fabrication laboratories around the world. The network is made up of a community of people who share knowledge, tools and processes. The certification places Ramacrisna among the 186 FabLabs in Brazil and the 10 in Minas Gerais, consolidating it as a reference in innovation, technology and social inclusion.

The certification process required compliance with a series of technical and structural criteria, such as the acquisition of specific equipment – including 3D printers, CNC Router, CNC Laser, printing plotter and robotics and Arduino kits. The achievement was only possible thanks to strategic partnerships with the companies NTS, WEG and BDMG, which made it possible for the large machines to arrive at the space.

Fablab aims to promote innovation and invention, stimulate local entrepreneurship, democratize access to manufacturing tools, digitize manufacturing and invent the next generation of manufacturing and personal fabrication. In order to meet all the requirements, in addition to the infrastructure, FabLab also had to comply with the network’s operating rules, such as maintaining at least one day a week with free access for the external public. As a result, the space will open its doors to the community every Wednesday, by appointment, so that anyone from the community can use the lab’s equipment to develop their own projects, as long as they bring the necessary materials.

“Receiving this certification in such a special month, when we celebrate three years of existence, is a huge thrill. It shows that we’re on the right track, offering cutting-edge technology and real opportunities for the community,” says Guilherme Nascimento, coordinator of FabLab Ramacrisna.

“The service on Wednesdays is a way of democratizing access to technology. Anyone interested just needs to get in touch, check the availability of the machines and schedule a time. This way, they can use the equipment to carry out their personal project,” explains Guilherme.

To celebrate the certification, the Ramacrisna Institute will hold a talk on “Artificial Intelligence and Careers: the future is now” on Monday, April 14, at 2pm, with AI, marketing and innovation specialist Cristiane Rosa (Kiki), at the Institute’s headquarters (Rua Mestre Ramacrisna, 379, Santo Afondo – Betim).

“This certification is a milestone for Ramacrisna. Together with great partners, we have managed to take innovation, inclusion and qualification beyond social and regional borders. And there’s nothing better than celebrating this moment by discussing artificial intelligence, a topic that has everything to do with the purpose of our FabLab,” says Solange Bottaro, vice-president of the Ramacrisna Institute.
