Actions of solidarity and empathy help to perpetuate the true meaning of Christmas and make the end of the year more special for children
Christmas is a time for togetherness and celebration, but it’s also the perfect time to practice solidarity and empathy. One of the best ways to experience this spirit is through Christmas Solidarity, which promotes actions that transform people’s lives and spread joy.
Here’s why doing good has everything to do with the holiday and how to get involved.
Doing good and helping others is one of the pillars of the true Christmas spirit. Christmas is a time for reflection, when we remember the importance of solidarity, love and empathy. The date symbolizes the birth of Christ, who came into the world to teach kindness and care for others.
By practicing generosity during Christmas, we are not only fulfilling this legacy, but also spreading light and hope, transforming the reality of those who need it most. Thus, the act of helping at Christmas goes beyond material gifts – it is a way of cultivating a fairer and more humane world, where everyone can celebrate the true essence of this season.
In other words, taking part in Christmas charity actions is a way of spreading love and hope to those who need it most. As well as directly benefiting children, Christmas volunteering also brings a transformative experience to those who get involved. By contributing your time or resources, you have the chance to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and feel part of a community that values collective well-being.
Through these initiatives, the Ramacrisna Institute, together with partners such as Partage Shopping Betim and the CDL BH Foundation, makes it possible for many children to have a happier and more dignified Christmas. With sponsorship and community involvement, Christmas solidarity becomes a powerful tool for social transformation. Find out more about the actions below:
December 5 was established in 1985 by the United Nations as “International Volunteer Day” with the aim of promoting volunteer actions around the world.
In the Brazilian context, it is challenging to ensure that social projects and organizations are sustained in the long term. Volunteering plays an essential role in this regard. It is through this type of action that many organizations are able to carry out their day-to-day work and guarantee their survival. According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in 2022, 7.3 million people did volunteer work in Brazil, 603,000 more than in 2019.
National Volunteer Day, in this scenario, becomes a strategic date. The Christmas and New Year celebrations turn December into a magical month in which people are generally more cheerful and emotional. At this time, the spread of volunteer work intensifies, as does the desire to contribute to the well-being of others. Companies also tend to get more involved at this time, running campaigns and encouraging their employees to take part.
These partnerships are essential for institutions like Ramacrisna. This year, two campaigns in particular, carried out by Partage Shopping Betim and the CDL BH Foundation, have given strength to the institution. The shopping center received a Giant Christmas Tree, where tags will be hung with the names and ages of Ramacrisna students to be sponsored. Visitors will be able to choose a child to sponsor and leave a gift in a box next to the tree. This action not only contributes to a child’s happiness, but also spreads the spirit of solidarity among all the mall’s visitors.
In addition, in partnership with the CDL BH Foundation, a big Christmas party will be held. The event includes various institutions in the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region, including gifts, a special snack and cultural performances – including a choir formed by the children of Ramacrisna. This celebration goes beyond material sponsorship, creating a moment of fraternization and joy for the children and the volunteers. The event is a way of strengthening the bonds of solidarity and promoting an atmosphere of unity and happiness.
