The collection consists of 12 books, which tell the story of a boy who has a dream of becoming famous and popular.

These are books that reflect well the transitional moment of the pre-adolescent reader. In addition, they are very engaging the reader with often funny and complicated stories, A connection with those of this age..

  • Missing – Meg Cabot

The nomination is actually for the last book in the Missing series. And it tells the story of a girl who receives lightning in the head and spends a season in Afghanistan.

It’s a dynamic, action-packed book. The story also brings together love, adventure and music. Meg Cabot also writes for girls without underestimating intelligence or addressing only “futile” subjects.

  • The Princess Diaries – Meg Cabot

It is the first book in a series with the same name. In the plot, a girl discovers that she is royalty. Between the routine of school and friends, she prepares to assume the throne.

It’s a fun book, with humor. In addition, it deals with topics such as taking responsibility and not abandoning friends.

  • De Olhos Fechados (Eyes Closed, free translation) – Lavínia Rocha

Lavinia’s books are a hit at the Ramacrisna Library. The author addresses relevant topics, such as visual impairment. The writer from the city of Belo Horizonte is young and speaks directly to the reader.

  • Coisas Incríveis Acontecem (Amazing Things Happen, free translation) – Lia Rocha

This is already a book for teenagers and almost adults. In the plot, a girl moves to college in another city. There, she has to adapt to the new reality and deal with a disaffection.

Lia Rocha is a pseudonym of the writer Lavinia Rocha. The new name was created to separate works for young audiences from books aimed at children. The author keeps the way she writes and doesn’t want to stop reading.

More children’s books

More than 9,000 books make up the Ramacrisna Library collection. To encourage the habit in children and adolescents, storytelling and reading mediations are performed. In addition, all books are available to be read and listened to..

“When the library gives readers autonomy to access collections, give their opinion on acquisitions and participate in planning and actions, the reader feels an integral and active part. In addition to empowering, this brings the public closer together, which creates the habit of reading”, explains Cleide Moura.

In addition to children’s books, the library has literary classics, works by indigenous and black authors and Brazilian writers.

Remodeled Library

Thinking about giving more comfort and well-being to the readers, the Ramacrisna Library underwent a renovation. The funds for the works came from the public notice of the Aldir Blanc Law and the Sou de Minas Reading Network, Uai – which is supported by Itaú Social.

To make the space more beautiful and attractive, the ceiling and pillars were renovated: illustrations were made inspired by the book and short film “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore”. Check out the renovation process in the video.

The reform also readjusted the space for receiving readers in the post-pandemic period, in accordance with the category’s reopening protocol. This includes greater spacing between readers and keeping the location airy..

There is still no date for the resumption of in-person activities. For now, mediations are online and materials are posted on social medias and for WhatsApp. Book lending continues. But whenever a book is returned, it is isolated for 14 days, for safety..

Help maintain this project

One of the Library’s projects is the Reading Bag, which consists of a suitcase with approximately 40 books and becomes an “exhibitor shelf” when it is opened. Through it, several educational institutions are visited with a traveling library and receive book donations.

To continue the project, we really need children’s books and literature. Do your part and donate some copies. Just contact us.
