Young apprentice

How to become a young apprentice?

From the age of 14, it is already possible to become an apprentice. But, according to the law of apprenticeship, other requirements must be met.

Have you ever thought about being a teenage apprentice? This is the legalized form of work for minors – from 14 years old – and young people. And, more, still go through theoretical and practical classes in training for the profession.

To become an apprentice teenager, the young person needs the intermediary of an institution that bridges the gap between the teenager and the company. In addition, the organization will provide the classes for the apprentices.

Want to know how to become a teen learner? See below.

Who can be a apprentice?

Briefly, to be a young apprentice, it is necessary to be between 14 and 23 years old and be enrolled in regular education, that is, the teenager must be attending elementary or high school. It is worth remembering that this is the only way to legally hire teenagers between 14 and 23 years old. So below that age, the law doesn’t allow any way of working.

The maximum age provided does not apply to young apprentices with disabilities and each case needs to be evaluated. For example, those/young people with a report of mental and/or intellectual disabilities need to have, in the proof of schooling, considerations about skills and competences related to professionalization.

In addition to these prerequisites, the teenager must have a work permit. This is because the Apprentice contract must be registered in the document.

How is the apprentice job?

The apprentice can work four or six hours a day or up to 30 hours a week. The workload is divided between work (practical part of the program) and theoretical classes, which are given by an institution that has an agreement with the contracting company.

According to the law, the work of the young apprentice cannot be carried out in places that are harmful to training and/or physical, psychological and social development. Likewise, activities cannot be carried out at times and places that do not allow young people to attend school.

In addition, adolescent apprentices under the age of 18 cannot work at night. According to the law, this period is between 10 pm and 5 am the following day, in urban work. The young apprentice over 18 years of age can perform this type of function, provided that the payment of the night shift is ensured.

What is the remuneration of the Apprentice?

The apprentice is entitled to receive the minimum wage proportional to the hours worked. He is also entitled to labor rights such as time off, thirteenth and paid vacation.

Can I choose the company I will work for?

Not. Ramacrisna’s apprenticeship program begins with a preparatory course called Youmg People of Future. With a workload of 80 hours, teenagers learn important concepts to take their first steps in the job market.

During classes, they receive lessons on how to speak in public, participate in job interviews, ethics lessons and tips on interpersonal relationships and on customer service.

According to market demand, profile analysis and the performance of the teenager during the course, students can be referred to companies to participate in interviews and compete for apprenticeships. That is, there is an indication of the teenager according to the profile that the contracting company sends to Ramacrisna, considering aspects such as location, age, profile, among others.

How to participate in Young People of Future?

To participate in the Young People of Future project, the teenager must go through a selection process, which has three stages: the first is a socioeconomic assessment and demand from companies; the second is an online test; and, finally, the presentation of documentation and proof of income.

How does Teen Apprentice work?

Ramacrisna is an accredited institution for the training of young apprentices. The Apprenticeship Program begins with the choice of the apprentice: Ramacrisna is responsible for pre-selecting the teenager among the members of the Young People of Future project. Then, these young people are referred for an interview at the company, which is responsible for interviewing and selecting the young person.

After the choice is made, the Institute sends a list of documents that the contractor must submit to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and other competent bodies. This is necessary to prove compliance with the learning quota.

The company also chooses which course the young person will take in the theoretical part according to the sector and the activities that the young person will perform. The most common is the Administrative Assistant course, but in addition to them we have several others such as Assistant in Commerce and Services, in Banking Services, in Logistics, Audiovisual, among others.

The young person then begins to work on an initial theoretical workload and only then does he/she start working in the company. In the Ramacrisna apprenticeship program, the teenager spends 4 days at the company and 1 day at the Institute, doing theory in the course that was designated.
