Free fiber optic course prepares young people for one of Brazil’s fastest-growing markets

Currently, the sector covers 83% of Brazilian territory. Anatel forecasts 20% growth by 2026

Fiber optics is no longer just a technological trend, but has become one of the main drivers of digital transformation in Brazil. Present in the expansion of 5G, cloud computing, and data centers, this technology is currently essential for the country’s connectivity, as well as being one of the areas that generates the most job opportunities.

With the rapid expansion of digital infrastructure, the market increasingly demands skilled professionals to work in telecommunications. According to the Competition Report of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), the fiber optics sector is projected to grow by 20% in 2026 and already covers more than 83% of the national territory. This advance expands the possibilities for field technicians, installers, network professionals, technical support, and telecom specialists.

The growth of this market caught the attention of an NGO in Minas Gerais. The institution began offering free practical training in fiber optic installation and repair. The course is part of the Computer Operator program, which goes beyond traditional content and includes an exclusive fiber optic module, a feature that is still rare in training programs in this field. The goal is to train students to work directly with technologies that are essential for the expansion of 5G, cloud computing, and data centers, areas that increasingly depend on optical networks.

For Professor Ronaldo César Mendes, who is responsible for the training, the main difference in the course is its practical approach, which is aligned with market requirements. “Fiber optics is the future of technology, and that future is already happening. Most IT professionals still do not have practical experience in this area. Here, students learn by doing and leave prepared to work in the market from the start,” he explains.

The module’s classes are 100% practical, using modern and professional equipment. Students learn everything from installation to testing and adjusting networks, experiencing real-life situations in the profession. “This direct contact with practice makes all the difference. Students gain technical confidence, stand out in selection processes, and greatly increase their chances of employability,” adds the professor.

The initiative is developed by the Ramacrisna Institute, located in Betim, which focuses on educational innovation as a tool for social transformation. For the institution’s vice president, Solange Bottaro, offering a free and pioneering course in a strategic area is a concrete way to generate opportunities. “Bringing a course like this, completely free of charge, to the periphery is very significant. When education keeps pace with the market, students come out ahead. It is a way of ensuring that they have access to the latest developments in the market, showing that innovation does not have to be restricted to large centers or private institutions,” she points out.
