A team from Betim excelled in the championship and returned home with one silver and two bronze medals.
Athletes from the Ramacrisna Institute represented Minas Gerais in the Brazilian Under-17 and Under-23 Wrestling Championship, held last weekend in Cubatão (SP). The team, made up of nine students from the institution, competed alongside athletes from various states of the country in one of the main competitions of the sport in Brazil, which brought together more than a thousand participants over two days of competition.
Athlete Lavinya Oliveira secured the silver medal, while Ray Lucas and Anna Júlia won bronze medals. Nicoly dos Santos, who finished in 4th place, Diego Mendonça, in 5th place, and Anna Lara, who finished the competition in 7th place, also stood out.
According to the team’s coach, Caliton Silva, the results reflect the athletes’ commitment to training and development in the sport. “We are very proud of everyone’s dedication and performance. We faced very strong competition, with athletes from all over the country, and yet our students demonstrated grit, discipline, and technical improvement. These results are the fruit of much training and show that we are on the right track in the development of these young people in sports,” he states.
In addition to the medals, the competition also represents an important opportunity for the sporting future of the young athletes. Medalists will be able to apply for the Athlete Grant next year, one of the main incentive programs for high-performance sports in the country. Competitors who reached seventh place accumulate points in the national ranking and, if they finish the year among the top three, they will also be eligible for the benefit.
The Brazilian Under-17 and Under-23 Wrestling Championship is organized by the Brazilian Wrestling Confederation, with the support of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, bringing together athletes from all over the country and contributing to the development of the sport in the national sports scene.
