In addition, you can take advantage of the fee to benefit social projects and help improve the lives of children, young people and adults in social vulnerability.

Check out all the details about income tax 2022.

Who needs to file income tax?

The income tax declaration is mandatory for people who had taxable income above BRL 28,559.70 in 2021. In the case of rural producers, the obligation is for those who had gross income above BRL 142,798.50 last year.

In addition, the income tax declaration must also be made by taxpayers with exempt, non-taxable or taxed exclusively at source income, including dependents, in the following cases:

  •     income above BRL 40 thousand;
  •     assets of more than BRL 300 thousand;
  •     capital gains on the disposal of assets and rights;
  •     participation in operations on the stock exchange.

Finally, the declaration is also mandatory for those who moved to Brazil in 2021 and for those who sold residential properties and bought another property within 180 days of the deal. In these cases, there is no exempt minimum income.

Deadlines

Taxpayers have between March 7th and April 29th to file the tax return. For this, he can use the Meu Imposto de Renda app, on tablets and cell phones. Or on computers, by the income tax generator program and by the Centro Virtual de Atendimento da Receita Federal.

For those who want to automatically use the data from last year’s declaration, the so-called pre-filled declaration, must access the gov.br system and have the account at the gold or silver level.

This year, the taxpayer has the possibility to start filling out the declaration on one platform and complete it on others, such as a computer, tablet, cell phone and in the E-CAC.

For those who miss the deadline, the fine for delaying the declarations will be from 1% to 20% of the tax due, with a minimum amount of BRL 165.74.

As has been the case since 2019, the 2022 Income Tax refunds will be made in five batches. Payments start on May 31, for the first batch, following the order of priority established by law, and go until September 30, when the fifth batch will be paid. Those who send the declaration first will also receive a refund for the first batches.

This year, the taxpayer can inform his Pix key to receive the refund. However, this key must necessarily be the taxpayer’s CPF. Mobile number, email and random keys will not be accepted.

The other credit options in checking and savings accounts are still valid. Those who have tax to pay can pay in up to eight installments and payment can also be made via Pix.

Declaration step by step

1)    Separate your documents

 First of all, understand that the income tax return is intended to provide information to the government about your spending and the taxes you paid throughout the year. Thus, to make the declaration, you will need the documents and records that prove your earnings and expenses.

Therefore, you must provide your personal documents such as CPF and voter registration. In addition, have proof of your financial income, whether salary, banking or financial investments. For this, contact your bank or your employer. Institutions must provide this information free of charge.

If you received any social security benefit, such as unemployment insurance or sickness benefit, seek the income report at the INSS.

You must also present records that prove the ownership of your assets, such as real estate, automobiles and works of art, for example.

It is also important to keep records of expenses that can be deducted from the Income Tax, such as health and education expenses.

2)    Access the IRS system

The Income Tax declaration must be carried out completely through the program or application available on the Federal Revenue website.

The first fields that must be filled in refer to your personal data. The Revenue program presents a menu that must be filled in according to the established order. That is, you first inform your income, then your expenses and, at the end, you receive the information with the tax payment guide.

After filling in all the fields, check the information. Then send your statement to the IRS. At this point you will receive two very important files. The first is the proof of shipment document, which is generated at the time of shipment and serves to prove that you have made the declaration.

The other document is the Federal Revenue Collection Document (DARF). It is only issued if, after filling in all the data, it is proven that you must pay something to the Revenue. The document contains the amount and conditions for payment.

3) Correct errors

The Internal Revenue Service system allows you to select the declaration sent with errors, inform the number of the supporting document, change the data and resubmit the declaration, now with the changes. It is worth remembering that this process can only be carried out within the submission deadline.

After submitting your statement, you just have to pay the tax due by issuing a DARF (Federal Revenue Collection Document) or, if you must get back part of what you paid during the year, you just have to wait for the payment of your refund.

How to make a donation for Income Tax 2022

Individuals may deduct from income tax donations made, in the respective calendar year, to funds controlled by the municipal, district, state and national Councils for the Rights of Children and Adolescents, respecting the established limit.

As doações podem ser feitas em dois momentos:

  1. outside the declaration deadline – in this case, the limit is up to 6% of the income tax amount;
  2. within the declaration period – this donation is made directly from the Federal Revenue system, with a limit of up to 3% of the declared value.

In both cases, the donation will be tax deductible. That is, it will decrease the amount to be paid or increase the amount of the refund. It is worth remembering that the direct donation in the declaration obeys some rules:

  1. does not apply to individuals who submit the declaration after the deadline;
  2. only applies to donations in kind;
  3. does not exclude or reduce other benefits or deductions in effect.

By making a donation, you can direct resources to a specific civil society organization, such as Ramacrisna Institute.
