Judo team wins 12 medals and seven trophies at the state qualifying tournament in Minas Gerais

The competition brought together approximately 530 athletes from 35 institutions in Minas Gerais and determined qualifiers for the Brazilian Junior and Under-13 Championships

The Ramacrisna Institute’s judo team delivered a standout performance at the Minas Gerais Judo Federation Anniversary Tournament, held on July 4 in Nova Lima. In addition to celebrating the federation’s anniversary, the competition also served as the state qualifier for the Brazilian Junior and Under-13 Championships, bringing together approximately 530 athletes from 35 institutions across the state.

With a delegation of 17 judokas, Ramacrisna concluded the competition with 12 medals—six gold, three silver, and three bronze—as well as seven team trophies. The club was the overall champion in the Women’s Cadet, Women’s Junior, and Women’s Senior divisions; runner-up in the Cadet division; third place in the Women’s Junior and Under-11 divisions; and fourth place in the overall Senior division standings.

The standout performer of the competition was team captain Anna Júlia. The athlete competed in nine bouts throughout the day and won the Junior category title. She then faced the current Minas Gerais champion in a playoff bout that determined who would advance to the Brazilian Championship Finals. With another victory, she secured her spot in the national competition, which will be held in Santa Catarina. Anna Júlia also competed in the Senior category, where she won another gold medal.

For the team’s coach, Caliton Silva, the results reflect the work built up day by day. “It was a very tough competition, with high-level athletes from across the state, and our team managed to respond very well. We achieved important results, both in individual and team events, which shows how our athletes have progressed throughout the season. Anna Júlia’s qualification for the Brazilian Championship is also a source of great joy and rewards all the hard work she has been putting in. Now we’ll continue training to maintain this level in upcoming competitions,” he explains.

About Ramacrisna Judo

Ramacrisna Judo is one of the highlights among the Instituto Ramacrisna’s sports programs, providing athletic training for children and adolescents in the Vianópolis region, near the institution. More than just a sport, the initiative promotes essential values such as discipline, respect, and perseverance, contributing to the physical and social development of the participants.

Created in 2018 and led by Sensei Caliton Silva Santos, the project uses sports as a tool for physical, emotional, and social development, promoting discipline, respect, self-control, and teamwork among young people aged 6 to 17.
