The event brought together 580 athletes from four states across the country
Last weekend, athletes from the Ramacrisna Institute competed in the Brazilian Judo Championship – Region III, held in Betim. The competition brought together 581 athletes from more than 100 clubs, representing the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, and Bahia.
The Ramacrisna Institute participated in the competition with five athletes, notably Ray Lucas Matos de Araújo, who won the silver medal, and Lavinya Estevam de Oliveira, who secured the bronze medal. In addition to them, young Anna Júlia placed fourth in the Junior class, Eloa Matos placed fifth in the U-15 class, and Nicoly dos Santos placed seventh in the Cadet class.
For coach Caliton Silva, the team’s performance reflects the athletes’ continuous hard work and commitment. “Participating in a championship of this level, especially one held in our own city, is something very special. Our students demonstrated determination, discipline, and growth on the mat,” he noted.
He also emphasized the importance of community support during the event. “It was moving to see fathers, mothers, grandparents, and friends cheering them on. That encouragement makes all the difference for the athletes, especially in high-performance competitions like this one,” he concluded.
