Reading Tips: 5 Steps to Read More

Books are a source of culture, knowledge and pleasure and can bring many benefits. Check out reading tips to get into the habit.

How many books have you read this year? Reading brings numerous benefits, such as improving vocabulary, expanding reasoning and developing critical thinking, in addition to being a pleasurable and fun activity.

With age-appropriate narratives, children, even in early childhood, can have contact with books, which makes it easier for them to develop the habit and become adult readers. But that’s not the only way to fall in love with reading.

Check out five tips to improve reading and become a better reader.

1) Make a commitment to reading

When starting a book, set a daily goal of pages you will read per day. But remember to set an achievable goal: start with 10 pages and, at the end of the first story, increase the number. It is worth remembering that it should always be an achievable goal, that is, possible to be accomplished..

Another important tip is to set aside time in your day to put this goal into practice. It can be 15 minutes or half an hour, it will depend on your routine.

2) Stay focused on reading

First, when reading something, you need to focus only on that activity. If the TV is on and the cell phone is beeping on the side, for example, you will pay attention to everything but what you should really be reading.

When we focus, reading speed increases. In addition, their understanding and memorization of the content improves. So, turn off social media notifications and leave the TV for later.

Por outro lado, existem algumas músicas, como música instrumental ou clássica, que podem ajudar na sua concentração. A dica é testar e avaliar se sua leitura combina ou não com trilha sonora.

3) Choose something you like

Before you start reading, read the synopsis of the book and evaluate if that story catches your attention. Also remember to evaluate the literary genre of the copy you have chosen. Novels and chronicles may be better for a beginning reader than a book of poetry, for example.

Another tip is not to rate books as better or worse. If you liked a bestseller, it’s better to read it than to insist on a literary classic and abandon it. Over time, you will build up a desire for reading and you will venture into classic stories and new genres. give time to time.

4) Talk about books

If you want to start reading more and don’t know where to start, don’t be afraid to ask. It could be a friend, a coworker, a teacher, or even a library or bookstore employee. People close to you can know what will please you most and tell you what they thought of that story. So, leave the bestseller list aside and look for real indications.

5) Find a place to read

To concentrate on reading, you need a space that is quiet, bright, comfortable and climate-friendly. All this will help you to focus. Libraries are a great option, and most of the time, free.

At Instituto Ramacrisna, students, employees and residents of Betim and other cities in the Metropolitan Region have access to the Professor Arlindo Corrêa da Silva Community Library
