The majority of women in work in the social and health sectors are a worldwide trend: according to UN Women, the United Nations organization dedicated to gender equality, they correspond to 70% of people employed in both areas. Women in the Third Sector

In October 2021, the manifesto “The Strength of Women in the Third Sector” was launched. The movement is an initiative of Fundamig and Conectidea, with the participation of managers from several Civil Society Organizations, including the Ramacrisna Institute.

 The manifesto was prepared after virtual meetings of the working group and points to the valorization and empowerment of women as ways to strengthen not only women, but also the Third Sector of the country. 

For this, the working group pointed out the importance of creating spaces for women’s speech, leadership, training and awareness. In this way, there is an incentive for equal opportunities and for an effective and respected presence in spaces of power.

The vice-president of Ramacrisna and a member of the working group, Solange Bottaro, emphasizes that the topic has been addressed for several years at the Institute. She also points out how the initiative allows the exchange of experiences.

“Female participation in the Third Sector has always been important and mobilizing. In recent years we have noticed that women have become professionally qualified to assume roles in the management, direction and advice of these organizations. It was then possible to expand its role thanks to the skills acquired and at the same time develop an efficient, innovative management with broad social impact results”, she comments.

Now, the Working Group is carrying out a survey on the profile and needs of women working in the sector. From there, a guide will be prepared with proposals to promote female qualification. The document should also point out ideas for institutions to work on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In addition, the guide should indicate ways for Third Sector management to open spaces for dialogue for female representation and protagonism.

Actions for gender equality

 On International Women’s Day 2022, the UN will promote debates on the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. The objective is to recognize the contribution of women to the reduction of climate change and the construction of a more equal world.

In addition, the Organization reaffirms the importance of initiatives for the inclusion of women and the reduction of inequality between men and women around the world. 

According to our impact report, our projects contribute to the achievement of SDG 5 – gender equality. This is because we guarantee the inclusion and equal opportunities of women in the initiatives. 

The Ramacrisna Educational Support Center (CAER), for example, provides women with a place to leave their children so they can work.

To give you an idea, 68% of those responsible for the children say that if their children were not students in the project, they would not be able to work. Thus, they would compromise family income and quality of life.

Another project aligned with SDG 5 is the Professor Arlindo Corrêa da Silva Library. The space allows the contact of people in social vulnerability with classic and contemporary authors. Thus allowing the knowledge of female experiences around the world.

In 2022, the Girls on the Net project will be implemented. The initiative seeks to promote the inclusion of young women in social vulnerability in the areas of innovation and technology. These markets are growing in the country, but they are still dominated by men.

The project also seeks to develop socialization, sports and cultural activities, stimulating creativity, logical reasoning and critical thinking.

International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Ramacrisna pays tribute to its employees. During the week, 10 employees of the Institute participate in a conversation with young people from the Adolescent Apprentice project.

Among the guests are project instructors and collaborators from different areas of activity of the Institute. 

In the project “Discoveries: women beyond the Ramacrisna Institute”, the collaborators share their experiences in the job market for young people. This is an internal initiative, with the objective of expanding the apprentices’ experiences and encouraging teenagers to invest in their professional careers.

In addition, on March 8, the date on which International Women’s Day is celebrated, the Ramacrisna Orchestra will perform an itinerant concert at the Institute’s units. In addition to the music, roses will be distributed to the collaborators. Follow the tribute on our social media.
